Paula Patton on 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol': 'There's No Way Tom Cruise Can Kill Me, Right?'
When Tom Cruise agrees to do a movie, the dude DOES the movie. As in: he brings excessive amounts of energy and talent to all things related to the production, both on camera off. Cruise even enjoys doing most of his own stunts -- something you already witnessed if you saw the trailer for 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' and the scene where Cruise's Ethan Hunt runs down the side of the Burj Khalifi, the tallest building in the world. The couch-jumping star didn't limit his work on 'MI4' to simply death-defying heights -- he also was on hand for some driving stunts that were dangerous enough for his co-star Paula Patton to fear for her life. Sorta. In an interview with Vanity Fair writer Brett Berk for Stick Shift -- a car column that runs online every Monday -- Patton discussed how she didn't get to do much stunt driving on 'Ghost Protocol,' because Cruise was literally at the wheel. "I've got to tell you, besides being an incredible actor, he's also a great stuntman," Patton said. "I mean, this man can drive a car! There were moments when we'd have to stop within, literally, a foot of the camera, and he'd be going at it full speed, and I'd be in the car going [inhales sharply and holds breath]. I'd think, He won't kill me. There's no way Tom Cruise can kill me, right? I mean, isn't that like a safety net? Tom Cruise is driving? My heart was in my stomach, but he always came through. He was always right on the spot." Good thing! You can see Cruise driving cars and running away from explosions when 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' hits IMAX theaters on Friday; a full theatrical release follows next week. A Snow Whitened Christmas
A Lythgoe Family Prods., Miracle Pictures Entertainment and Raising a child presentation of the musical pantomime in 2 functions by Kris Lythgoe. Directed by Bonnie Lythgoe. Musical director, Michael Orland choreography, Spencer Liff sets, QDos costumes, Donna Maas lighting, Chris Wilcox seem, Phil Allen. Opened up November. 30, 2011. Examined 12 ,. 2. Runs through 12 ,. 18. Running time: 100 MIN.With: Neil Patrick Harris, Lindsay Pearce, Marina Sirtis, Erich Bergen, Jonathan Meza, David Figoli, Italo Elgueta, Dashi Mitchell, Katie Reese, Morgan Larsen. After presenting Hollywood to the idea of British pantomime this past year with "Cinderella Christmas," the Lythgoes go back to the El Portal Theater using their undertake another traditional fairytale in "A Snow Whitened Christmas" -- and it is much more amusing, rambunctious and-spirited than their previous offering, inviting constant audience participation from excited children (and grown ups) and getting new existence towards the well-known story because of the superb comic timing from the ensemble cast which is all about "The Glee Project's" Lindsay Pearce as Snow, Marina Sirtis ("Star Wars: Next Generation") because the sizzling wicked Full and Neil Patrick Harris, who constitutes a screen appearance as her very knowing Mirror. It is the Mirror that begins the experience, rapidly establishing the storyline inside a prologue with sly jokes and native references that other figures continue through the show. It is the first indication that this isn't a Disney-fied Snow Whitened. Indeed, the development owes more for an up-to-date vaudeville style within the first musical number the villagers dance within the town square like a very sassy Snow devices out Lady Gaga's "Born By Doing This" in true Broadway fashion. Every fairytale heroine requires a partner/secret admirer and Snow White's is court jester Muddles (Jonathan Meza, amusing), so-known as while he will get his words muddled up -- he longs to "liss the kips" of Snow -- a apparently endless supply of puns. When Prince Harry of Hancock Park (a superbly arch Erich Bergen) comes to the village searching which are more beautiful girl within the realm to marry (his brother Wills lately tied the knot), it's Muddles who purports to help him. The Full thinks she's a cert for Harry until her trusty Mirror informs her that they is no more the most amazing lady within the kingdom of Beverly Hillsides, it's her niece, Snow. Aghast, she orders her trusty huntsman Herman (Figoli) and Muddles to consider Snow in to the forest and kill her, returning her heart as proof. Everyone knows they do not do this -- so when Full finds out the deceptiveness, expected off with that tell-tale Mirror, she sets the darkly eerie spirits that haunt the forest after Snow inside a show-stealing version of Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Snow is saved through the Seven Dwarves taking her the place to find their Youthful Miners' Cottage Alliance, establishing an effusive perf from the Village Individuals "YMCA" that everybody within the theater participate in with. The dwarves get their own real-existence fairytale story. Two teams of youngsters were selected after a wide open casting call in the Culver City Westfields Retail Center attracted some 600 wannabes. Inside a jerk to Disney, the tyros put on costumes capped with rubber heads that appear to be such as the figures produced through the Mouse House and mime their parts for an audio track. In the castle, the Full (signal boos and hisses in the audience) sings a darkly portentous version from the "True Bloodstream" theme song, "Bad Things," as she cooks in the poison apple, transforms into a classic hag and takes the fruit to Snow. Yes, our heroine eats it and dies. Came from here, the storyline is different from the trad fairytale but, suffice to express, everything works out well using a amusing scene where Muddles, assisted through the dwarves, asks the Mirror's help but will get the spell wrong and calls up first "DwtsInch judge Bruno Tonioli after which Nigel Lythgoe, in the "Which Means You Think You Are Able To Dance" persona, before raising the Mirror (permitting Patrick Harris, finding themself encircled by "small people" instead of small blue people, to decrease inside a promo for his "The Smurfs" movie). Bergen, Figlioli and Meza elicit howls of laughter when they show up on stage within this high-wind turbine and also the jokes flow thick and fast, many focusing on two levels, "Shrek"-style, to attract kids as well as their parents. Pearce's voice blends superbly with Bergen's, who performed Bob Gaudio in "Jersey Boys," while Sirtis' remarkably deep tone was wonderfully menacing. When the snow falls on the pair within the finale because the cast sing "Celebration," everybody within the aud has got the holiday spirit going full blast. If Summit Entertainment is really seriously interested in a merger or perhaps a purchase, the organization has the advantage of wheeling and dealing even though it is in a high-water mark. Summit introduced today the Twilight Saga: Breaking Beginning — Part 1, travelled past $500 million in global box office in only 12 days. The film reaches $508 million today. It had been launched November 18 and single-handedly has brightened the general box office picture. The film has produced $223 million domestic, which makes it among only 12 films to achieve $220 million in ten days. Artistically, I figured the film could have been far better had director Bill Condon finished Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Beginning book in a single movie. Let’s face the facts, the Bella (Billy Burke) and Edward (Taylor Lautner) wedding and subsequent pregnancy were sooooo attracted out, and absolutely nothing much happened. However again, I'm not a teenage girl or perhaps a Summit executive searching at another half-big haul when the second installment arrives next November 16. Stated Summit Entertainments co-chairmen Take advantage of Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger: We couldnt become more happy with the prosperity of this film along with a franchise the fans have ongoing to aid in the last many years. Thanks to any or all associated with the flicks in the stars, filmmakers and Stephenie Meyer to the most crucial number of all, the worldwide group of followers that is constantly on the drive a desire to have more Edward, Jacob and Bella.”

Steven Soderbergh Departs 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.'
After watching both George Clooney and Bradley Cooper walk away from "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," director Steven Soderbergh is also finding it time to say goodbye. The director has been developing the project with writer Scott Z. Burns since early 2010, but due to disagreements with studio Warner Bros and the lack of a leading man, Soderbergh decided to pass. The Playlist writes that Soderbergh and WB couldn't agree over casting and budget decisions, and the "Contagion" director decided to depart after deals with Cooper fell through only a few days ago. Channing Tatum, who has become a regular in Soderbergh's recent movies, was briefly considered for the lead part in the spy flick, but ended up being passed over by WB. "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was originally supposed to shoot in March 2012, and the lack of any clear plan for the film to be ready for its start date was part of what caused Soderbergh to pull out. The Playlist is reporting that Soderbergh is planning on filling that spot with a new, unknown project. He still has plenty to keep him busy with over the next few months, too. His action flick "Haywire" is set to hit theaters in January, and Soderbergh is busy in post-production now with "Magic Mike," his "stripper movie" starring Tatum. The Playlist says that WB will likely still move forward with "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," but will have to reschedule the flick's planned filming start date. Are you disappointed Soderbergh won't be directing "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

Channing Tatum For Man From U.N.C.L.E.?
EXCLUSIVE: Steven Soderbergh, who just directed Channing Tatum in Magic Mike, is eyeing him for the lead in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I’m told. Both of those films are at Warner Bros. Soderbergh has been looking for an actor to replace George Clooney, who bowed out because he’s having surgery and wasn’t up to the stunt work. That shouldn’t be a problem for Tatum. No offer yet, but let’s see how this plays out.
Michael J. Fox Recreates 'Back To The Future' With Surprise 'Johnny B. Goode' Performance
Twenty-six years after the world witnessed Marty McFly perform Chuck Berry's hit "Johnny B. Goode" on the big screen in "Back to the Future," Michael J. Fox has returned to the stage to perform again. Fox took to the stage at his A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinsons charity benefit at the Waldorf-Astoria. Based on the video released of the performance, it looks like Fox closed out the event in high style with some pretty epic guitar shreds. Fox surprised attendees with his last-minute performance. For those of you who need to go back to the "Back to the Future" films, Marty performs the song "Johnny B. Goode" at the Enchantment Under The Sea dance at his parents' school back in 1955. In "Back to the Future" mythology, his performance was supposed to have inspired Chuck Berry to create the hit. This isn't the first time Fox has incorporated "Back to the Future" into his fundraising this year. He also was behind the Nike MAG shoes that were auctioned on eBay in September for $4.7 million. And, of course, Fox reprised the role of Marty McFly in the trailer for last year's "Back to the Future" reunion at the Spike Scream Awards. If that's how much love and attention the cast put into the film's 25th anniversary bash, I can't wait to see what they do for its 50th. What did you think of Fox's performance of "Johnny B. Goode"? Do you like seeing him perform homages to "Back to the Future"? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

Happy Ft Two
'Happy Ft Two'A Warner Bros. (in U.S.) release presented in colaboration with Village Roadshow Pictures of the Kennedy Burns Mitchell production with Dr. D. Galleries. Created by Doug Mitchell, George Burns, Bill Burns. Executive producers, Chris deFaria, Philip Hearnshaw, Graham Burke, Bruce Berman. Co-producer, Martin Wood. Directed by George Burns. Co-company directors, David Peers, Gary Eck. Script, Burns, Eck, Warren Coleman, Paul Livingston.Voices: Mumble - Elijah Wood
Ramon/Lovelace - Robin Williams
The Mighty Sven - Hank Azaria
Gloria - Alecia Moore (Pink)
Will the Krill - Kaira Pitt
Bill the Krill - Matt Damon The wondrously eccentric, eco-conscious sensibility George Burns introduced to his 2006 penguin-designed toon yields a very less amazing Antarctic adventure in "Happy Ft Two." Although it maintains the buoyant musical stylings and splendid pictures that made its predecessor so distinctive, this chatterbox of the follow up manages to lose its way having a raft of annoying side figures that the slender narrative framework provides way too indulgent a showcase. The result feels nearer to the antic, fast-speaking type of much contempo animation will not always keep Warners from achieving another family-friendly holiday hit, and three dimensional ticket taxes should help combat less-than-glowing response. Considering the fact that any follow-as much as the Oscar-winning "Happy Ft" could be challenged to support the quality of their penguins-and-pop concept or even the chastening impact of their environment styles, it had been possibly shrewd of coming back scribes Burns and Warren Coleman (joining with scenarists Gary Eck and Paul Livingston) to lessen their ambitions here. "Happy Ft Two" is nine minutes shorter than its predecessor and, absent the feeling of showmanship given by its stunning three dimensional imagery and genre-spanning soundtrack, its relatively bare-bones story would appear appropriate for any direct-to-video quickie compared to a bigscreen outing. Doing little to counter this belief may be the script's abundance of kid-friendly existence training, many of them distributed by tap-dancing emperor penguin Mumble (again well voiced by Elijah Wood) for the advantage of his youthful chick, Erik (Ava Acres). Just as much a musical misfit as his father was not so long ago, klutzy Erik humiliates themself throughout among the penguins' conformist group medleys and goes out at home. While Mumble heads to finds his boy, an enormous ice-shelf collapse traps the relaxation from the rookery within an enormous gorge. What develops is less a legendary adventure than a long problem-fixing exercise by which Mumble and Erik make an effort to free their community, while Mumble's sweet-voiced spouse, Gloria (Alecia Moore, also known as R&B star Pink, changing the late Brittany Murphy), does her better to maintain calm lower below.
The save mission, alas, can succeed only by using buddies from neighboring Adelie Land, who conspire to show "Happy Ft Two" right into a wearying parade of foreign accents and showboating vocal turns. The standout here's Anthony LaPaglia, oozing Cockney menace like a surly elephant seal another thesps generally place their boisterous cues from Robin Williams, again doing dual purpose as Latin-lover type Ramon and crazy guru Lovelace. Particularly irritating are Will and Bill the krill (Kaira Pitt, Matt Damon), a loud, wisecracking crustacean duo stuck inside a parallel story that plays like a lot underwater filler. The space between visual and verbal sophistication could scarcely become more pronounced here, because the krill's gently speckled physiques rate one of the film's most intricate, photorealistic masterpieces. After which there is the Mighty Sven (Hank Azaria), an itinerant Swedish puffin using the show-off charisma of the revival-tent preacher. Accordingly, Burns and co-company directors David Peers and Eck sometimes push the musical amounts toward the beneficial levels of the secular gospel service, a strategy that actually works insofar because the film's episodic subplots actually illustrate some easily digestible morals: If kids have not yet understood that bullying isn't good, being different is alright, as well as the littlest being can shape the fortunes of, be assured that "Happy Ft Two" leaves little room for doubt. The uninhibited musical sensibility remains admirable and infectious as the soundtrack might have done without such viral head aches as "Never Gonna Provide You With Up" and "Dragostea Din Tei," you will find wealthy settlements in Moore's soulful performance of "Bridge of sunshine,Inch a soaring anthem of hope bathed within the glow from the northern lights, along with a climactic setpiece that reps possibly the very best motion picture utilization of Full and David Bowie's "PressurizedInch since "Grosse Pointe Blank." During these moments, the film reaches for that sublime and from time to time accomplishes it, though nearly every such instance is immediately then an area of dialogue-heavy down time. Overall, what "Happy Ft Two" needs much more of is silence, a feeling of hushed tranquility that will permit the viewer to contemplate the regal great thing about this frozen world and also the horror of their potential extinction. Once more, Burns and the crew prowl these spectacular, forever varied landscapes by having an remarkable eye for detail, the swooping camera and fluid cutting mixing to create thrilling changes in scale and perspective the immersive effect is further enhanced by artful, inconspicuous (otherwise entirely essential) three dimensional. The motion-capture rendering from the penguins' actions is really as precise and realistic as always, although the periodic interpolation of live-action human figures, used so hauntingly within the first film, is repeated less effectively here.Camera (Technicolor, widescreen, three dimensional), Peers, David Dulac editor, Christian Gazal music, John Powell music supervisor, Kim Eco-friendly production designer/art director, David Nelson set designer, Mark Sexton animation director, Take advantage of Coleman supervisory seem editor/seem designer (Dolby Digital/Datasat/SDDS), Wayne Pashley re-recording mixers, Paul Massey, Phil Heywood, Peter Cruz choreographers, Wade Robson, Dein Perry, Kate Wormald visual effects supervisor, Dulac visual effects, stereoscopic supervisor, Jason Fairley casting, Kristy Carlson. REVIEW: Shabby-chic Supernatural Thriller 11-11-11 So Lo-Fi It's Almost Endearing
There’s something almost endearing about the creakily lo-fi quality of 11-11-11, the latest feature from Darren Lynn Bousman, director of Repo! The Genetic Opera and _Saw_s II-IV. The film has the feel of something conceived and whipped together in very little time, perhaps to make its own built-in deadline. It struggles with big ideas — about the apocalypse, the changing nature of faith and, of course, how a certain date allows for the passage of possibly demonic beings between the worlds — that it can’t possibly accommodate on its small scale. It’s a film with maybe a dozen speaking parts and supernatural beings that are clearly dudes in black robes wearing rubber masks that nevertheless tries to suggest seismic spiritual changes are afoot, thanks to the events it chronicles in a beach house in Spain (a country from which I can only assume the film received funding, as there’s no other reason for it to be set there and the travel opens up problematic time zone questions). 11-11-11 is not at all frightening, a fault that lies as much with its limited effects as with its goofy concept: A successful, grieving author named Joseph Crone (Timothy Gibbs) starts experiencing ominous things linked to the number 11. He crashes his car, he has nightmares about the wife and son he lost in a fire, he learns that his father’s in his last days and he has visions of demonic figures. Joseph may have lost his faith, but he sure likes talking about it — “God is dead, or maybe he was never alive!” he declares. When he heads to Barcelona to reunite with his dying dad and wheelchair-bound brother, neither of whom he’s seen in years, we see that religion plays a major role in his family, as both of the men are priests. They’re pioneering a branch of Christianity that apparently espouses sin as natural and meets for services on Thursday mornings, and sibling Samuel (Michael Landes), who delivers the sermons, may be the target of those elevensie monsters (the movie explains that according to 11-11-11 mythology, they’re called “midways”). The shabby-chic quality of the 11-11-11’s practical effects gives it the feel of some forgotten ’70s artifact that somehow surfaced in selected theaters, and the clunkiness of the film’s dialogue adds to that oddball, out-of-time sensibility — people repeatedly refer to Joseph as a “famous writer,” as if that were a specific type of career choice, and when Joseph explains to his brother about the numerological pattern he’s noticed, his brother says, “Maybe you’re just cognizant of the number now and recognizing it.” (He also claims his congregation’s aim is “transcending the world’s conception of religion” — catchy!) Characters act in ways that’s not at all internally consistent. Joseph’s family died because an obsessive fan started a fire in his house, and yet he doesn’t blink when Sadie, a woman from his therapy group (Wendy Glenn), finds his number, starts calling him all the time and actually follows him to Spain. Joseph becomes convinced his role in this event is to protect his brother, and he acts on this decision by immediately leaving his brother alone in the house to go for a walk in a hedge maze in town with his new crazy stalker girlfriend. Bousman’s not without talent. 11-11-11 wrings some creepiness from visions of Joseph’s son and father, the actor playing the latter (Richard Crone) being scary enough without the addition of prosthetics. But 11-11-11 is a perfect example of why it’s wise to shape your material to the resources you have — in overreaching like this, the film just looks amateurish and schlocky. It may be more worthwhile as a study in the ever-changing world of niche marketing than as something you’d want to sit down and watch. Arriving in theaters through AMC independent, which offers space in multiplexes for indie titles, 11-11-11 seems to be counting on Bousman’s fanbase and a Paranormal Activity-style “Demand it!” online campaign. It’ll be interesting to see how well this works to get the word out without the weight of a major studio behind it — the midnight screening I arrived at was reasonably populated, until a theater worker came in to announce that this wasn’t a screening of Immortals, if that’s what anyone was there for, and a dozen people grumblingly walked out. 'Snow White And The Huntsman' Trailer: Our Wish List
If the "Snow White and the Huntsman" banner that was released earlier today was meant to make us amped for the teaser trailer being released tomorrow, then it definitely did a good job. The Rupert Sanders-directed action adventure film has plenty of exciting things going for it -- Kristen Stewart in a suit of armor, for one -- yet there has only been a small amount of low-key promotion going for it so far. Sure, the film is still more than six months away from hitting theaters, but the movie is likely to be boosted to popularity thanks to the fact its trailer will probably be tacked on before every showing of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1," which comes out next Friday. The banner got us thinking about all the aspects of "Snow White and the Huntsman" we're most looking forward to, and that we hope we will see teased in tomorrow's trailer. Read on after the jump to see what you have to look forward to (hopefully) in the teaser's release. Kristen Stewart As A Badass It goes without saying that the biggest selling point for "Snow White and the Huntsman" is the fact that it is starring Stewart. But not only is she starring in the film, but she's also kicking some serious butt. In both the promotional shots from the film, Stewart has been shown battle-ready and carrying a sword. It only makes sense that Stewart show off some of her newly-honed battle skills in the first teaser trailer for the movie as well. Romance Is A-Brewin' When it comes to Chris Hemsworth as The Huntsman, there's not that much more than meets the eye. He gets hired by the queen to kill Snow White, but ends up deciding to help teach her to defend herself instead. As often happens in fairy tales, even ones tweaked like "Snow White and the Huntsman," the two of them are on a romantic collision course. Fans are used to seeing sparks fly between Stewart and her "Twilight" costar Robert Pattinson, so it will be nice to (hopefully) see the chemistry between her and Hemsworth. The Impressive Fantasy World I'll admit, it took until I saw Sanders' commercials and his vision for "Snow White and the Huntsman" at Comic-Con to really be convinced that he is the perfect director for this job. He has a distinct visual style that is well-suited for fantasy, as can be seen in the banner released earlier today. It will be nice for those who weren't in San Diego earlier this summer to get a chance to see how great Sanders' work is. Charlize Theron At Her Most Devious Charlize Theron is a badass. This is known. But she is especially badass and devious in the promotional material for "Snow White and the Huntsman." Based on the fact that she's been getting as much time in the photos released as both Snow White and her Huntsman, I'm betting my bottom dollar that she is going to get a decent amount of screen time in the trailer as well. Hopefully we'll even get to see some magic at work as well. She's got to have something extra going on to wear that dress day in and day out. The Dwarves The one aspect of the film that has been noticeably lacking in its promotion is the seven eight dwarves. Sure, Snow White ditched them for the sake of The Huntsman in her title, but still, they're a major part of this film. There was one group picture that was released, but since then they've been MIA. Maybe the CGI isn't ready on them yet or maybe Sanders is just waiting to save them for some big reveal, but I am definitely hoping they make at least one appearance in this teaser. What do you hope is included in the "Snow White and the Huntsman" trailer? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!

Film Festival to resume financing films after a three-year absence. Grosvenor Park's aiming to provide a "one-stop shop" financing solution for independent films in the mid-range budget level via senior, gap and tax lending. The first Palomar film to go before the cameras will be "Joseph and the Girl," a remake of a 2010 French heist thriller. The film will be directed by Gary McKendry and co-written with his writing partner Matt Sherring, the creative team behind "Killer Elite." "Joseph" will start principal photography in March. Sighvatsson is in advanced negotiations with major actors for the lead roles. The original "Joseph" centers on a man getting out of jail where robberies got him locked up for 20 years. He goes to live in the house of his ex-cellmate who died in prison and left behind his daughter, who's a swindler. "Elliot" is a remake of the 2001 Norwegian film "Elling" with a script by Jay Roach, Larry Stuckey and Tom McCarthy. Sighvatsson will produce with Jay Roach and Kevin Spacey while Jennifer Perini at Roach's Everyman Pictures will exec produce. The original "Elling" was based on Ingvar Ambjornsen's novel "Blood Brothers" about a man in his 40s and his struggle to function normally in society. "Rose Madder," based on King's 1995 fantasy novel, has been adapted by Naomi Sheridan ("In America"). That story's based on a woman who's on the run from her abusive husband and is able to travel into a painting. Sighvatsson is finalizing partnership arrangements with domestic and international distribs. "Joni's history the past two decades consistently producing high-quality films with fiscal discipline, and his knowledge and understanding of our changing marketplace, is the reason that Grosvenor Park is entering into this long term relationship," said Grosvenor Park partner Don Starr. Sighvatsson said the pics will be "high-quality mainstream pictures" and use a simpler method of financing larger budget independent projects instead of the traditional financial model normally used. Grosvenor Park has arranged financing for more than 400 projects since 1982, including "The Hurt Locker," "Righteous Kill," "PS I Love You" and "Deja Vu." Electronic Media: Parents Advised To Limit Exposure For Children Under 2
Study: Fast-Paced Cartoons Not Good For Children’ Brains – Sorry SpongeBob As much as 90% of kids younger than 2 are uncovered to some type of electronic media every single day, and American Academy of Pediatric medicine states these children are best participating in unstructured play some time and getting together with other humans — not media screens — and also at this age they're already watching around two hrs each day. TV that's on without anyone's knowledge can also be harmful, based on the policy statement. The pediatricians group first released tips about media use for kids under age 2 in 1999, basically discouraging TV viewing. More is famous today about kids early brain development and also the how to make them learn. One of the pediatricians’ conclusions: Unstructured play time is much more valuable for that developing brain than electronic media. Children learn how to think artistically, problem solve, and develop reasoning and motor abilities at early age range through unstructured, unplugged play. Free play also shows them how you can entertain themselves. Parents who watch television or videos using their child may increase the children's understanding, but children find out more from live presentations than from public ones. So-known as “educational television” isn’t as advantageous as a parent may believe it is. Many video programs for infants and small children are promoted as educational, yet evidence doesn't support this. Youthful children learn best fromand needinteraction with humans, not screens. When parents are watching their very own programs, this really is background media for his or her children. It throws parents and decreases parent-child interaction. Its presence could also hinder a youthful children's gaining knowledge from play and activities. Television viewing around bed time may cause poor sleep habits and irregular sleep agendas, which could negatively affect mood, behavior and learning.
Apple Stock Takes Hit As 4Q Misses Targets; iPhone Sales Take Brunt Of Blame
Sluggish sales of iPhones during Apple’s fourth quarter contributed to revenue that was up more than 39% year-over-year at $28.27 billion but missed analysts’ estimates. Earnings per share were $7.05, less than Wall Street’s $7.39 target — the first time the company has missed EPS estimates, or any estimates, for that matter, in seemingly forever (OK, since 2004). The company reported after the bell this afternoon, and the stock was down as much as 7% after hours before rebounding slightly. (At least one analyst predicted such a drop.) Shares of Apple had risen to a new high, $422, on Friday. Sales of iPods, iPads and computers came in mostly as predicted, leading some to believe that the lower-than-expected iPhone number — 17.07 million units — owed to consumers (and maybe even Apple) holding back on buying and supplying iPhone 4s in favor of waiting for the new iPhone 4S, which new CEO Tim Cook introduced in his first public appearance the day before the death of company co-founder Steve Jobs. That should be considered a possibility, especially considering that Apple offered better-than-expected guidance for the first quarter.

HLN offering coverage of Murray trial
As the legal teams involved in the Conrad Murray manslaughter trial begin to sift through the grisly details of Michael Jackson's death, HLN is giving the trial the Casey Anthony treatment.HLN has promised "gavel-to-gavel" coverage of the trial, which began last Tuesday and is expected to take four to six weeks before a verdict is rendered. And HLN is not the only outlet capitalizing on the trial: Fox Television Stations created a smartphone/tablet app that streams live coverage from its O&O KTTV in Los Angeles -- a program that outpaced all the other paid news apps in the Apple store within 24 hours of its launch. The major broadcast nets are offering live streaming of the trial on their websites. The other news cablers seem to have ceded the territory to HLN for now. One MSNBCer says they're "definitely not going wall to wall with it," and HLN was the only net to announce comprehensive coverage plans. HLN saw a ratings spike last week, with its total viewer average climbing from 97,000 on Tuesday to 145,000 on Wednesday -- compared with a recent average of 32,000 before the trial began. Over the same period, CNN dropped slightly from the previous week in total-day viewers (122,000) while MSNBC was mostly flat (138,000) and Fox News (310,000) saw a slight bump. Mad Fashion: TV Review
After nine seasons of Project Runway's tried and true weekly elimination formula, viewers may be excused for occasionally craving a change of pace from the fashion brand that has championed a "one day you're out" competition format. But while the wildly popular show has made bona fide television stars out of mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia, few of the many contestants whose designs have graced the runway -- save for season four winner, Christian Siriano-- have seemed worthy of spin-off experimentation. One other exception to that rule, however, is Chris March, the flamboyant, amiable season four also-ran whose creations routinely ignored Kors' obsession with more conservative sportswear and separates, and Garcia's tasteful, editorial rebukes. Unlike so many of Runway's forgettable contestants who promise new beginnings upon elimination from the show, March parlayed his third-runner-up finish into Chris March Designs, a no-holds-barred embrace of his Beach Blanket Babylon-inspired aesthetic that sometimes proved too over-the-top for the adventurous Heidi Klum. On Mad Fashion, Bravo's new series constructed around March's new business venture, the fan favorite is given creative license by his female clients to produce clothing that is perhaps better suited for the drag queens of Coney Island's Mermaid Parade than for the women who regularly shop at Saks Fifth Avenue. In the premiere episode, that means creating a show-stopping ensemble for NY shoe designer Ruthie Davis to wear at a preview of her new line. Meeting with his new client at her apartment to discuss the concept for the get up, March immediately seizes on a design idea. "Would you like the idea of having some shoes on your outfit?" March asks. "Some actual shoes?" Davis fears that such a literal motif "could look cliché," but gives March the green light to see what he can come up with. "I don't want to design something that everybody else would do," March says before heading back to his studio in the old Lord & Taylor building in Manhattan's Flatiron District. "I want to design something that's bigger or better or funnier or more beautiful." In the absence of a whole lot of actual dramatic tension, executive producers Matt Westmore (Beauty and the Geek, The Biggest Loser) and Noah Scheinmann (Hired) rightly bet March's fertile imagination and snide sense of humor will keep viewers entertained. When one of March's assistants complains about developing a blister on his finger while cutting strips of tough fabric, March quips, "Do you know how many homeless gay people would be happy to cut up glitter canvass?" And in a hilarious aside squeezed in during a commercial break, March pulls out a blue Sharpie for a solemn moment. "I've been fascinated with Stevie Nicks for a long, long time," he explains with his staff assembled behind him. "I've written 'Stevie Nicks' inside everything I've made for the past 20 years. It blesses everything we make." In other words, if you're looking for fashion's quirky flipside of Project Runway's "go, go, go" cutthroat ambition, Mad Fashion is your show. March is completely at ease with himself and his aesthetic, and the worst that can happen here would be to deliver an outfit that misses the mark for his eccentric clientele. As March gleefully orders one of his team to drill and saw through thousands of dollars worth of Davis' stiletto heels, even that prospect doesn't seem all that troubling. "She might think it's too crazy," March says. "If she does, she's wrong." Bravo Project Runway
